Why Social Media Is a Muscle (And How to Actually Train It)

I've recently been getting more serious about working out. Specifically weight lifting.

Not in the gym-bro bodybuilder way, but in the "I'm in my late 30s and all the data points to weight lifting is what's going to keep me young" sorta way.

It's something I actually enjoy doing because it's something my husband and I do together, and it just starts off my day on a way better note. But the mental health benefits aside, it's been tough and humbling.

The progress is not fast. The changes aren't either.

But I'm trusting the process — because I've seen it laid out by millions of people that if I'm consistent (and, ya know, eat well, take care of my nervous system, allll those other things), the results will come.

I knew when I started that it would be this way. I don't expect crazy results in 30, 60, even 90 days.

That would be ridiculous, right?

So Where Am I Going With This?

In a lot of areas — like saving money or exercising — we don't expect immediate results. But that's exactly how most of us treat social media.

We post for a week. Maybe two. We don't see results. We feel awkward. We convince ourselves it's "not working" or we're "not good at it."

And we quit.

But social media isn't a one-and-done thing. It's a muscle.

You don't expect to run a marathon after one jog. You don't expect to play piano after one lesson. You don't expect visible abs after one sit-up.

So why do we expect social media to "work" after a handful of posts?

The Truth About People Who Are "Good at Social Media"

Here's the truth: The people who are "good at social media" aren't naturally gifted. They just kept going. They posted through the cringe. They talked on stories when no one was watching. They figured out what worked by doing it over and over and over again.

Consistency isn't about being perfect. It's about being repetitive.

The algorithm rewards it. Your audience starts to expect it. And YOU get better at it — faster, more confident, and you start to actually enjoy it more.

The 30-Day Social Media Challenge

So here's my challenge for you this month:

Pick ONE small social media habit and commit to it for 30 days.

Not a complete content overhaul. Not "post every day." Just one thing.

Some ideas for your one thing:

  • Talk on stories 3x a week

  • Post twice a week (even if it's simple)

  • Spend 10 minutes a day engaging with other accounts

  • Share one behind-the-scenes moment every week

That's it. One thing. 30 days. See what happens.

What If You Need Help Staying Consistent?

And if you want some accountability and support while you do it? That's exactly what we do inside The Resonators Circle.

Every Monday, I drop 2-3 content ideas you can actually use that week. Then we meet for Office Hours where you can ask questions, workshop your posts, and get real-time feedback.

No more staring at a blank screen wondering what to post. No more doing this alone.

Join The Resonators Circle for $49/month.

Your social media muscle is waiting to be trained. Let's build it together.

P.S. If you've been lurking on the sidelines waiting for the "right time" to get consistent — this is your sign. The right time is now. The only way to get better is to start.
